Several paragraphs into the above linked article from the Moscow-Pullman Daily News, our patron representative asked a question.

We continue to advocate for the warm therapy pool. After ten years of structural neglect, the Gritman Board and CEO maintain that the building housing the pool is too expensive to repair.

They say the building housing the pool facility was built in the 1950s. Which is true. But it was completely refurbished about 2010.

So we have other questions:

  • How will Ron and Janie Nirk (as the main contributors to the Nirk Therapy Pool) continue to be remembered by Gritman to the community?
  • Has the Martin Wellness Center (name) been abandoned?
  • And is Gritman acting in good faith with the voters of Latah County, the Nirk legacy, and the memorial to Jeff Martin?

Meanwhile Gritman is spending their nest egg on an existing downtown building. This area was platted on the city map in 1888 (well before the 1950s).

The block is currently known as Kirker Commons. However, Gritman patrons enter through the back alley to the relocated Wellness Center gym at the south end of the building (west alley entrance).
